Fallout 3 continues the post-apocalyptic blood line |
|
As a fan of the original Fallout games 1 & 2 and even Fallout tactics to a certain degree I had very high hopes for Fallout 3. They were so high in fact that I was afraid I was setting myself up to be let down as is often the case with games. Thanks to the father of Atom, this was not the case with Fallout 3. This game rocks from start to finish, that is if you ever can really finish this game. I have logged over 100 hours exploring the wasteland and downtown DC and I still hear people talk about locations, events and NPCs that I've yet to see. The games combat is wasteland-brutal just like it should be and can be played at fast pace in real-time or slowed down to all it's exit wound glory using the VATS system. Combining these two will keep you entertained with combat for dozens of hours (I'm still not tired of it at all after 100 hours of play) and it also fits the game into the modern era because when you can have this why would you want to have another game in fixed isotermic perspective like the old ones. The main quest isn't tediously long but there is plenty of side-quests and points of interest to keep you running around the map with wide-eyed anticipation for the entirety of the game. There a couple bugs regardless of the version you're playing but word on the street is that a patch is coming soon and we can expect Bethesda to take care of the issues. If you want the best visuals out of Fallout 3 it shouldn't be a surprise that you'll find them on a PC with some horsepower but the Xbox 360 version will suffice for casual gamers. I've been able to run the game on max settings with consistent 60-80 FPS. There isn't a better post-apocalyptic game out there and this is the best RPG in years. |

Save your money |
This is the most bug infested game i have ever played, i can only find one word to describe the gameplay (inbetween the recurring crashes); BOOOOORRRRINGGGG no i mean seriously BOOOORRRINGGGG!!!
Maybe Bethesda should play some games like CODMW, CODWAW, CRYSIS, BIOSHOCK ETC, They might learn a thing or two about making a game exciting and addictive. |

What is the problem? |
This game is very good in every respect. I really do not understand how anyone would rate it lower than 4 stars UNLESS they started out with unrealistic expectations.
The fact is that the game is very detailed, has excellent graphics, a decent (if not very good) story line, good voice acting, and a great variety of weapons, armors and other items.
The only possible complaint I have about it is that the opponents are a little limited, and not terribly challenging after a certain point in the game. I enjoyed it so much I played it twice and still haven't come close to seeing everything there is to see in it yet.
If you like post-apocalyptic fiction, all 3 Fallout games are worth playing.
Fallout 3 is NOT the original Fallout, it was never advertised as such, and no one ever said it would be the original. Bethesda did a great job carrying on the Fallout series, and I really hope they are up for a Fallout 4 that is similar to Fallout 3. It's just that good. |

really good game |
|
A lot of the issues people have taken with the game are DRM based, but, honestly, this game isn't that bad DRM-wise. The gameplay is quite excellent - it beats the pants off of Oblivion, and I find it more playable than the old Fallout games. It does have some problems with the ending that are rather disappointing, but overall, It's been a while since I've had this much fun with a game. This is one worth buying. |

Fallout 3 - The Death of a Great Game |
I waited many years for the third installment of one of my favorite games of all time. Fallout 1 and 2 were amazing games, totally captivating and immersive, well balanced, challenging and a universe worthy of devotion.
Fallout 3, in it's ill conceived quest to run with the big boys of FPS such as Gears of War, fails at every level. Gone are the compelling game play and interesting world - it's simply a shadowy rehash of the former games but without the verve. Gone are the interesting overarching quests and gone, sadly, are the deep and sophisticated fictional constructs that made sense. All replaced by a fantastic example of immature development and concept wrapped up in pretty next gen-ish visuals. But even those fail to impress - the lighting for example- sources don't match with the visuals.
And then there is the gratuitous "F" bomb language and the horrid closeup character lip synch and animation. The irony of Mature rated games is that they are actually immature - pandering to little boys and their immature fantasies. Fallout 1 and 2 dealt with grown up themes and will endure, thankfully, as #3 fades into the morass of bad games...like Dai Katana.
Too bad. You only get so many chances to make a game that delivers on the long awaited promise of a sequel. This is not halflife...nor is it worthy of the name Fallout and definitely not worthy of the hour it took to install. I'm thankful it only took a couple minutes to take it off my system. |
