Don't buy it |

The device itself is rather interesting, but it rarely works. The software requires your computer always to be turned on and left logged on, instead of running as a service. The biggest problem though is the sound quality. It sounds much worse than a cell phone with lots of crackling and it often hangs you up. Also, if you chat with tech support they just read through the knowledge base, which you most likely already did, and their ability to write English is terrible. It may be a cheap phone bill but you're better off just not having a phone if you want to save money. |

No Complaints |
I've been using Magic Jack for about 4 months and have had no difficulties at all with it. MJ provides you with a local phone number which is great, you get connected quickly, and the sound quality is reliably good ! I have been using Skype for years, but Skype does have its days. I use my Magic Jack phone when Skype's call quality is lacking; it's a great back-up.
Like Skype, it gives you the luxury of a different phone number if you are doing business from home, but don't want the little ones answering business calls or if you have an older relative in a different state and you want to provide her with a local phone number with which to reach you.
I really like MJ and will renew my service next year. |

My magicjack is great --- quality as good as landline and so close to free. This phone comes with all the services you could want -- those that the phone company charges $6-$8 monthly for each one. What I love about the voicemail is that every voicemail generates an email and you can listen to your messages on any computer (or of course you can access it from your phone). You can go online and forward your MJ number to another number in the event of a power outage too. I just love this and with my family all over the country it's really great to talk long distance all I want to, with landline quality, free. You can't go wrong here. |

Magic Jack still needs improvement |
Yes, free phone service sounds good and is a huge savings - but ... the Magic Jack only works 50% of the time.
Often we can't receive calls in, or make calls out. We have to reboot the computer a couple of times per day.
Luckily, we don't use the phone much and we have cell phones, so this is not a huge deal, but still a concern.
The Magic Jack still needs improvement. |

not happy with magicjack |

I have returned my MagicJack because every other time I tried to use it I had to reboot the software. It became a royal pain. I also had a very difficult time communicating with the return service personnel. They still have not refunded my money a month after they received my magicjack back, and I had to have the credit card company investigate. Please be aware that there is no phone number to call for help, only online help which was not satisfactory. |
